Lunatics
By Julie Morales
As the moon follows its natural phases, orbiting the earth once per month, it changes dramatically.  It begins as a new moon, hidden from earth's view, and over the course of 29.5 days, becomes fully visible and beautifully bright.

Some believe these cyclical lunar transformations affect the growth of plants and animals, guide the fertility of women, and induce dramatic changes in human behavior.  During a full moon, more crimes, violence and accidents are reported.  There are more fires and hospital emergency rooms fill.

Science has proven the moon's effect on the earth's tides.  Considering that the human body is 80% water, could the gravitational pull determining tides be determining our inner "tides", and causing any number of unusual behaviors?  Some would argue that a force capable of controlling  one third of the earth's surface may possibly be influencing us.

The moon's effects may be a matter of the mind believing lunar influence is possible.  Or, extraordinary changes may be out of an individual's control.

Just ask any werewolf.
