Sundown Stewart sent us so many wonderous
tales of her ghostly encounters, The Strange decided they
warrented a page all their own. So sit back with us by
the old cyber campfire and listen to the little noises
around you while you read of her experiences with the
paranormal. Below are her accounts, in her own words.
" I
have had so many experiences with ghosts - poltergeist - the
supernatural throughout my life, I would not know where to
begin. I'd like to relate some of my favorites.
My sister and I have
had numerous experiences in two of the houses we grew up
in. One of my earliest memories occurred in the first
house we lived in after our parents divorced. I was
eating in the kitchen facing the living room, which I
could see in almost full view through an old brick
arch. To the left would be the rest of the
house. To the right was a wall. My sis came
running from the left, past the arch
toward the wall at which the living room ended. I
wanted to tell her something, so I immediately called for
her to "come here", expecting to see her come directly
around the corner from the area to the right (not once did I
take my eyes off of this
area). When I did not, I called
her again, and then again. She heard me, and came
running into the kitchen....from the left.
The next place, where
my mother and sister still live & which still scares me,
was crawling with weird energy (we believe that some of this
comes from my sister and I, but not all). Some
examples of activity:
* Seeing human-like movement in
peripheral vision (this has happened to people outside of
our family as well) which disappears when one looks in the
direction of the movement.
* TV and Radios in our bedroom would
turn on at FULL VOLUME in the middle of the night.
These were the old ones with manual knobs; I do not think
the old "house was settling" explanation applies.
* Items suddenly falling over on the
second floor, followed by distinct footsteps directly above
us.
* Areas of the house suddenly turning
ice cold (this was southern Ca)
* Doors slamming shut.
* Clocks of all types stopping in the
middle of the night. The digital clocks were what made
us aware of the outages, but the morning after all quartz
clocks would be between 20 and 45 minutes behind.
After doing the math, and after several incidents we
concluded that this
was no coincidence.
* To this day, my sister and I will say
"what?" in unison, as we both hear a distinct female voice
say our respective names in the same instant.
* My sister and I sometimes had the same
dreams on the same night. One that sticks in my
mind: Our mom left her sweater in Hell, and we had to
go down and get it.
We had two terrifying
experiences with our cousins during seances. The first
took place in my Aunt's garage. After some
unsuccessful attempts to contact the dead, we had the bad
idea of calling on a dead relative, the infant Joseph (my
mother's brother who died of "crib death"). I called
on him, and in my best "Haunted Mansion" impression
said, "give us a hint by ringing a bell". Seconds
later, the doorbell rang. We listened intently as an
adult answered the door. They returned to tell the
other parents that no one was there. Freaked out, I
asked Joseph if he had done it. Suddenly clothes flew
off of some boxes, and a heavy iron door that led to the
yard (and was always stuck firmly in the
dirt) slammed shut. We ran out screaming, but
unfortunately did not learn our lesson.
Our next séance was held in our tent
while camping in Mexico. Earlier that day we'd
discovered a VW Bug that had gone off
the road, into a ravine, and under a large pipe. A
cross by the side of the road marked where Margarita Cervez
had dropped to her death, in the car. We called on her
that night, and became spooked when the wind picked up, and
we heard
footsteps near the tent. The
adults were in the house. We continued, and suddenly
our lantern went out, and all the walls of the tent suddenly
began caving in simultaneously. We could clearly make
out the shape of hands all around us. We screamed for
about 30 seconds until our parents, aunts, uncles, and
cousins ran out. The lantern went back on, and the
tent was back to normal. I got in big trouble for
scaring everybody.
At 18 I moved back
from (REALLY HAUNTED)
Colorado (I could go on and on about CO)
to have my son, & live with my mom for awhile. I
had the occasional creepy experience, & some entities
were still bothering my sister ( my son's father and I both
witnessed portions of these events). As is to be
expected our combined energy
produced some weird phenomenon once I'd
been back awhile. When my son was about 3 or 4 months,
he had conked out early. I was holding him, watching
TV on the couch all by myself. My mother was in bed,
and I was sitting by one of two living room lamps.
Both happened to be lit, but the one I was sitting by would
go down really low and then come back on. It would
come in 2s or 3s, stop for a bit, then again, etc.
This did not at first bother me, as I was used to strange
electrical occurrences here. I watched the other lamp
while this was taking place, and it was
unaffected. I carried my
baby into the kitchen, and as I stood under the light the
same thing happened. As an experiment I flipped on the
dining room light and watched it as the other light went low
and bright, over and over. The dining room was
unaffected. I decided to go upstairs to bed. I
placed my son next to my mom while I went into the bathroom
to get ready. As I stood under the bathroom light,
guess what happened? Needless to say I hastily brushed
my teeth, and rushed to bed. The next morning, before
I had a chance to tell her what happened
my sister told me that at the party
she'd attended the previous night she had everyone
freaked. Every light she would sit or stand by would
go down and bright again.
The house I currently
live in is definitely haunted. Some examples:
* My step-daughter and I were making
tacos. The kitchen and living room where the babies
were playing got a little too smoky, so we started opening
windows. I decided to turn on the ceiling fan in the
living room to help clear it out, and asked 'Lis to open the
windows. We turned around, and the ceiling fan, which
turns on only with a pull cord, began to turn until it was
running full force.
* This same (I think) helper often turns
on the light in the
stairwell that leads to the ground floor
when I start the descent in the dark.
* Once when the kids and I were picking
up phone conversations on our walkie talkies, the light
actually went OUT when we were in the very same
stairwell. We ran upstairs, and sure enough the switch
had been turned down, the light still worked. We got
the impression we were
being chided for our naughtiness.
* One night I was home alone with all
three kids, and one of their friends. After they were
asleep, I started changing for bed as well. Suddenly
the clock radio went off. I was not scared at that
point, just annoyed that someone had changed the alarm and
turned it up all the way.
As I was setting the alarm, I realized
it was still set properly. Just as I was pondering
this, the stereo system in our room went on, again at full
volume. This scared the hell out of me, so I shut it
off, climbed into bed, and tried to sleep. I was
awakened by my step-son, who came in crying that there was a
clown in his room, and it was mean. Luckily I did not
encounter this clown, but I did not sleep well until my
husband got home.
* My husband has seen bizarre, slowly
moving lights in one hallway. The kids (including
friends) have always been scared of this hallway.
* A Native American friend, who knew
nothing about the house being haunted, was immediately
creeped out during her first visits, particularly by my
bedroom and the toy room (accessible through said
hallway). She also hates my computer, which often has
a mind of its own.
* More than once I've found the letters
W and M scratched on my arm. This happens when I'm
awake! My arm would suddenly feel sore, I look and
there they are. I suppose I've rambled enough,
although this is far from a complete account. "
