The Strange! - Animals

Strange Animals
There are many strange animals in the world.  In this webmaster's opinion, none are quite as strange as the newly discovered Hot-Headed Ice Borer.  This mammal, related to the common mole, has a head made up of a very thin skin covering many large, throbbing veins filled with very hot blood.  With a body temperature of over 140  degrees F, this creature melts the ice around its prey, creating a water hole that traps its dinner so that the ice borers can eat it alive.  The ice borers move together in packs under the ice of Antarctica. (The only known habitat of the ice borers.) Their main staple consists of mostly penguins.  However, it is believed by the experts that men have been eaten by the ugly creatures on occasion.  Some of the accounts of early Antarctica explorers seem to describe "death by ice borer".  Hot Headed Ice Borer

Update: This animal appeared in the April issue of Discover Magazine several years ago.
It is said to be a joke.  However, there have been many tales of strange arctic rodents melting the snow under people and animals.... and eating them as well.  Rather slowly I would imagine.

Another strange animal is known as the Amazon Leaf Fish.  This fish is very flat and thin with the shape of a leaf.  It has a jaw that looks like a leaf stem and it has a stripe down it's middle section that looks like a leaf vein.  It lies on it's back and floats on the top of the river waiting for another fish to get close enough to snatch and eat.

And how could we leave out the Duck Billed Platypus?

The Duck Billed Platypus is a strange animal native to Australia.  It is a member of the Monotreme family, of which there are only two other members which are both Spiny Ant Eaters.  The Platypus is a warm blooded mammal but it lays eggs like a bird or reptile.  It has a bill very much the same as a duck that it uses to gather food from the bottom of small creeks near the coast lands.  It also has webbed feet which allow it to swim like a fish but give it quite a bit of trouble on land.
