This ghost story was sent in by Paul:
I grew up in New
England and spent many weekends at my grandparent's
home in Maine. I
usually slept upstairs in the renovated attic, but on
this particular night,
I was sleeping on the couch in the living room.
Late that night, or
early in the morning hours, I awoke and, looking
from the living room
through the dining room toward the kitchen, saw a
very bright light in
the kitchen doorway. No light radiated from it
into the rooms, but was
totally contained within itself, in the
unmistakable form of a
short man wearing a brimmed hat. No discernable
features such as a face
or buttons or pockets could be seen. The form
seemed to be facing
diagonally toward me with the right arm raised and
the hand beckoning to
me! To say the least, being about 10 years old at
the time, I was
petrified! However, I must have gone back to sleep
immediately, as that is
all I recall of the event. Incidentally....my
grandmother's father
(whom I never met), then deceased for many years,
was a short,
hunchbacked man, who always dressed impeccably....complete
with his trade-mark
fedora!! To this day, I believe I was visited that
night by the
"ghost" of my great-grandfather.
